Day 6, Ride to Oro Valley (Tucson)

Day six was a great 64 mile ride with a gentle 1800 ft of ascents to Oro Valley, a community north of Tucson, AZ north. We are looking forward to a two-night stay at Steve Leibo’s friends, Dr. Craig Williams and his wife Becky’s home in a beautiful desert setting. We really appreciate this community of bicycle friendly lanes and courteous motorists. Tomorrow is my laundry day and we get to be tourists with our Craig and Becky as our local guides.

Along the way we passed a Picacho Peak State Park and enjoyed more ice cream for lunch. I realized the influence of northern SnowBirds, where on the most desolate road 6 miles from a the smallest town, I see a Cocktails food and drink establishment. This reminded me of my Wisconsin heritage and childhood memory’, recalloing holiday gatherings when my Great Aunt Mildred would command her husband, “Herb I am dry, I need a cocktail!”

  1. Hej Steve! Just got caught up on reading your daily blogs. Love the great photos and details regarding challenges and surprises. Also descriptions of food and drink! Happy Trails!

  2. I think the phrase “Hey _______ I’m dry, I need a cocktail.” should be our new catchphrase when we cycle with friends from here on out. Words to live by.

    1. John, you would fit right into the Wisconsin heritage, and you would definitely enjoy our family holiday gatherings!

  3. Ice cream lunch at the Tumbleweed – hard to beat that. The desert looks great at sunset. I hope you took a dip in that pool.

    1. Adrian, it was the best looking setting for a pool, so I did get in just up to my thighs, since it was in only 60ish degrees F. You would have loved it, but the hot tub was great for me. Not the Sand Beach Acadia National Park in January that you dare swim, however.
