Today we had to start a 67 mile ride with 40 miles of direct headwinds on a road with motorists who expected us to stay out of their way. Hwy 38 East to Maricopa is a long high speed highway with very little shoulder space, and most all the motorists considered it our responsibility not to be in THEIR lane. We held a tight pace line all day and got in earlier than usual.

Looks like some beautiful country you are riding in. I have been keeping up with your post everyday! Hopefully the rude motorists will lesson as you continue with your ride. I experienced that only rarely on some of the routes that I’ve been writing on at home, but I have run into it so I appreciate the difficulty you’re having with those cars.
I still see smiles on your faces, so that’s a good sign. Keep the pictures coming!
Jim, we have a lot to smile about. So far the fun exceeds any hardships. We even laughed at ourselves after the day three mud ride.
Thanks for your comment!
Nice comment Jim!!
Steve, I do really get the comment about the wind !! I would rather climb, than fight the wind !!
A tight pace line on a thin shoulder… sounds like character building stuff. Great you have a team to work with and getting in ahead of time – bravo!
Adrian, we learned a good paceline technique out of necessity. We file a very strict rotation between one or 2 miles each.
