Day 43, Midway, Florida to Alachua, Florida

Today was a day we all enjoyed, and now only have two more rides to complete the entire tour! There were great blooms of wildflowers along the highway and bicycle paths we rode. If I can trust PlantNet iPhone app we say patches of purple Mayne’s Pets and larger fields of magenta Drummond’s Phlox and yellow with red centered Goldenmane Tickseed. If you are not into wildflower identification, or think I got is wrong, please acknowledge it enhanced the scenery of our ride.

Again we met and talked with locals, including the young Zack at the public library, who’s buddy has a totally camouflaged bicycle. Also Stuart who showed up on the bike path and offered his help and cold Gatorades.

Speaking of a flat tire, it was mine, and up to today and 2745 miles, I had none on my tubeless Goodyear commuter tires. Doug and Steve Leibo had a few each earlier in the ride and I was so hoping to boast that I never flatted crossing the USA. The cause was a small nail on a path that entered in the center of the tire that is always in direct contact with the ground. Darn!

We did pass over the Swanee River and saw someone fishing in very clear water. From the bridge we could see the river bottom for a considerable distance. This is in contrast to the muddy waters and dark black rivers we saw in Lousianna, Mississippi and easter Texas.
