Day 37, Moss Point, MS to Gulf Shores, AL via ferry from Dauphin Island

Nice ride totaling 67 miles with route shown on these two maps. We chatted with a solo self-supported man from Greenville, SC doing southern tier east to west direction getting off of the ferry as we got on. First he road from Greenville to the start line in Saint Augustine. Geez! This is our third encounter with solo self supported riders (two young men, and one women), and we all agreed none of us ever had the courage to take on such a journey on our own. We wish them all well and a safe journey.

Being efficient with time, we had lunch with provisions from the RV when we met up with Carol and Julie at the line for the four mile ferry crossing. Fortunately, there as also an ice cream stand right there so I could get another large shake with sea salt caramel and Mexican vanilla. Prior to the ferry crossing we had a very healthy three mile plus bridge crossing. This part of Alabama and it’s communities are all about the Gulf and it’s rivers.

There was one bridge crossing that looked as ominous as the photo, with a potential to be way over 15% incline. I will tell you that we were relieved that it was not the case, and the bridge actually provided a nice safe bicycle/breakdown lane.
