Today I was surprised that we had cold temperatures, after I assumed we would be warm or even too hot for the remainder of the tour. We started out in Austin in the mid 40’s and ended at 56 degrees in La Grange, with a “feels like” temperature of 43 degrees due to overcast and high winds. The good news is that the winds seemed somewhat favorable, or at least not hampering our pace, even though wind maps said winds were out of the north, while we were generally heading east. In that scenario in Virginia, we would experience a massive direct in-your-face headwind.
The other notable difference east of Austin is that the arid desert has been overtaken by green pasture land. We also enjoyed more of the famous Texas Paintbrush wild flowers that seemed to overtake the Texas Blue Bonnets. I apologize for fewer pictures today, because of the rain jacket I wore, which prevented easy access to my iPhone camera. Many of the pictures I have been taking were while pedaling the bicycle.
While here, I must tip my helmet to the famous song by ZZ Top about a brothel in La Grange, even though we never did see one. “Rumor spreading ’round in that Texas town about that shack outside La Grange….They gotta lotta nice girls”….
