After a rest day in Del Rio, I definitely started the ride feeling refreshed, but the beginning part of busy stretch of Hwy 90 seemed to wear me down a bit. I commented to Doug and Steve that this 32 mile stretch to Brackettville lacked any scenery. Previous stretches of 90 were nice, but not today’s. However. once we turned onto Ranch Road 334 the wind direction and scenery greatly improved, and the traffic was just about eliminated. In fact the scenery improved more after exiting Brackettville because the Texas Hill Country began.
While stopping for a break at Brackettville’s municipal track and field park, we flagged down and talked with Jesse Elwood, who was courageously doing a solo, self supported southern tier route from from East to West.
Next interesting event was a forced road stop by the Customs & Border patrol. We took advantage of the occasion to chat and get a picture with them, which they were glad to accommodate. In the picture you see all but one is smiling, as they should be happy with the best job security in the Federal Government. We have been seeing C&B trucks and agents since the the first week of the tour, and it was our objective to get such a picture.
