We considered this a casual ride with a relatively shorter mileage of 54. Today was an extremely pleasant ride as we continued easterly on Hwy 118, This highway is very scenic and know has the highest paved highway in Texas that leads 6791 feet to the McDonald Observatory in the opposite direction we headed. The scenery was especially striking on the way to Alpine TX, 23 miles east. This was a short distance, but with our late departure, Alpine was a great stop to have our packed sandwiches and a milk shake. After lunch we were treated to a descent tail wind on Hwy 90. Cycling couldn’t be much easier than today’s ride.

I actually was in Alpine TX myself, back in the early 90’s, when l went to Big Bend National Park. Did you see any javelinas or roadrunners?
Trina, thanks for your comment. I have been wondering what is considered the Big Bend Area of Texas and found this picture in a travel guide at my hotel. Seems we have been riding through it, but not the BBNP itself. We have not seen those critters, by we did see a species of antelope. I wish you were here to see it again.
I will post the BB map on the Day 17 post.
