Day 16, Van Horn, TX To Fort Davis, TX, 80 miles

Today’s ride began before sunrise on State Hwy 90 with a difficult 9 mph direct headwind for 46 miles. We began early to avoid forecasted rain and thunderstorms in the mid-afternoon, but fortunately they stayed distant to our route. Hwy 90 is a nice road to ride without headwinds, but we were treated to more beautiful scenery when we finally were able to turn from SE to east on a great ranch road numbered 505 and later Hwy 17 and Hwy 166. This required some steady climbing to over 5000 foot elevation, but the effort to climb was easy compared to that headwind. There were no services on the entire route, so we again relied on Carol and Julie to replenish our water and some food supplies.

  1. I need more information about the Prada store? Museum? Attraction? That is just a strange photo without context.

    1. John, I just replied on the second strange store front we have seen on another desolate Texan highway. This one was a Buc’ee’s, like we are getting constructed in Mount Crawford, VA. It seems these are considered Art Installations and are definitely out of context to the unaware traveler like ourselves. Very amusing! Thanks for your comment.
