This map is a slight variation in route from the original plan. Still, 5800 ft ascent with most between 25 and 48 miles. We are planning a later departure to wait for the unusual San Diego rain fall of the past day or more to end by about 10:30 AM. I am told by locals there is so little rain here that when it does rain it is very slippery because of the longer time period pavement collects motor vehicle oil. Fortunately it rained enough already they it should be washed clean. This is by far the most climbing of the entire trip. It hopefully is a steady 5 to 6 % for that 23 miles so we don’t deal with much steeper climbing (like 7 to 13%). Just a nice steady grind up, I hope. We will be in no hurry.
