Day 36, Bogalusa to Moss Point, Mississippi

The weather could not have been better, and the road surfaces were fantastic as we road through Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge, and later approached the water front community with a shipbuilding industry and beautiful riverfront homes. There we approached Pascagoula, MS, where we had an extremely dicey bridge crossing on the first of two large bridges. I marked in blue pen in a photo below where the wide bike lane gave way to two lanes of merging fast rush hour traffic. Yikes!

In the last few miles we visited and indulged ourselves at Tootsie on the River at 4907 Main St, Moss Point. There we all had some actual award winning coconut based vegan ice cream, made on-site. I had the award winning (first place of some 500 entries) Honey Lavender vegan ice cream. If that wasn’t unique enough the owner, Kathy Payne, treated us to there in-house lemonade, made with sea moss that came with three different flavors. When you eat lots of vegan ice cream (I ordered three scoop dish), there is no problem getting on a bicycle and immediately riding again.

This was the first bridge crossing over the Pascagoula River where two heavy traffic lanes from Jerry St Pe. Highway met with our heavy two lanes of bridge crossing on Hwy 90. It was more dramatic in real time than this appears on the map. See the photo where our nice biker lane on Hwy 90 abruptly ends and we are now the middle of 4 lanes of heavy rush hour traffic while climbing a bridge.
