Day 29, Cleveland to Lumberton, Texas

Today was not about any the scenery, but some perfect road surfaces. Each morning we evaluate the day’s effort my hill profile and wind direction, but what is also a big help in conserving effort and maintaining a good pace is the road surface. Texas has better road surfaces than our previous states, and that includes their Ranch and Farm roads. Today we marveled at some of the smoothest surfaces, and these were on Farm road, like Farm road 787, connecting small townships. We did pass one river, the Trinity to break up the forest scenery. We also made a general store stop in Honey Island to supplement our improvised mac and cheese with sardines for a double protein intensive meal. You really need carbs for immediate glycogenrestore on these long rides, but on a multi-week tour we worry a lot about our daily protein intact too.

Tonight we enjoyed a great Vietnamese dinner as we look forward to am 87 mile route that takes us out of Texas! As of today, the tour is just over 1800 miles. I will report our total mileage after we cross into Louisiana tomorrow.

  1. Man you guys are killing it. Except for the snowstorm early on it looks like you have been dry. We have had rain and chilly temperatures here in the Valley for the last couple of days.

    1. Hey Bill, you are following us closely as the snowstorm was the only bad weather so far. Thanks. I think there was some major rain north of us in Texas, but we avoided it all. I can’t believe how cold it has been some nights in The Valley of Virginia, in April.
